Police Arrest Man For Stealing, Using Credit Cards From Unlocked Car
(by Supriya Yelimeli) – A 37-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stealing a purse and using the credit cards inside to make several purchases, Belmont police said.
A woman who lives in the 2700 block of Ponce Avenue told police at 9:30 a.m. Friday that her purse had been stolen from a car she left unlocked overnight.
Police said stolen credit cards were then used at several locations in Belmont and San Leandro.
Belmont and San Leandro police said they found the suspect, Matthew Jefferey Hunt of Castro Valley, later in the day.
Hunt was arrested for having stolen property, and burglary, credit card fraud and identity theft charges are pending, according to police.
