(by Peter Fournier) – A person who drove a vehicle through the main gate at Travis Air Force Base on Wednesday evening has been pronounced dead, according to Travis Air Force Base officials.

Air Force officials said early this morning that no other people were injured or killed in the incident and there are no other threats to the base or community at this time. Officials didn’t say how the person died and
didn’t release their identity.

According to a statement released by base officials on Wednesday night, a vehicle gained unauthorized access to the main gate some time shortly before 7 p.m. Officials said the vehicle crashed shortly after passing the main gate.

Base officials said the base’s explosive ordinance disposal team reported to the scene to investigate the incident. The public is asked to stay away from the base until further notice.

The base’s main gate is still closed, but traffic is being redirected into the base’s hospital gate near David Grant USAF Medical Center.
