Oakland police recovered guns and thousands in cash after they stopped a vehicle thought to be connected to a shooting, police said Tuesday.

On Monday afternoon of last week, officers saw a vehicle believed to be connected to a shooting as they were patrolling the 8100 block of Mountain Boulevard.

Officers stopped the vehicle and as they were talking with the driver, they saw a gun inside. Officers asked the driver to get out of the vehicle but instead the driver sped away.

Oakland’s police helicopter followed the driver to Interstate Highway 580 and 14th Avenue. There, the driver got out and back in the vehicle and drove away again.

The police helicopter continued to follow the vehicle until the driver parked and got out at Beaumont Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard.

Officers were directed to that area where they arrested the suspect. Officers returned to Highway 580 and 14th Avenue where they located two discarded guns.

Officers also searched the suspect’s vehicle and home and found more guns, gun-related material and more than $14,000 in cash.
