(by Janis Mara) – A man was hit on the back of the head and his wallet and money stolen late Thursday in People’s Park in Berkeley, University of California at Berkeley police said today.

The assault and robbery took place at the park on Thursday around 12 a.m., according to police. A man struck the victim with an object, committed the robbery and left the park, police said.

The victim suffered a cut to his head.

The Police Department encourages people to take advantage of the free night safety services available at; to travel with a friend or in a group; and to keep electronic devices out of public view, as they are a popular robbery target.
