(by Keith Burbank) – A fire has been extinguished this morning in an Oakland two-story duplex where marijuana was found growing, a fire battalion chief said.

The fire was reported at 8:25 a.m. in the 1400 block of East 32nd Street near Highland Hospital.

Crews had to force their way inside because the building was heavily fortified, Battalion Chief Nick Luby said.

Firefighters searched the structure and no one was inside but they found about 200 marijuana plants.

The fire started with a floor heater and burned the floor around the heater.

No one was injured. Police also responded.

Luby said a person responsible for the home has not been located yet.
