(by Janis Mara) – The California Department of Veterans Affairs issued a statement expressing grief and support in response to the fatal hostage standoff at the Yountville Veterans Home of California Friday.

“Our hearts are heavy for the entire Yountville Veterans Home community and the families and friends who are grieving for those who died,” Vito Imbasciani, secretary of Calvet, said in the statement.

Imbasciani described the tragedy as “devastating.”

The secretary said, “Nothing matters more than caring for our veterans and employees during this difficult time.”

Imbasciani praised law enforcement for its “tremendous” response and thanked the community for what he described as its unfailing support.

May their souls rest in peace.
The events of yesterday are a travesty.
