(by Janis Mara) – A large group of people is marching down Fourteenth Street in downtown Oakland to the Lake Merritt area in the March For Our Lives, and motorists should slow down and use alternate routes, police said.

Downtown traffic is being impacted by the huge crowd, according to police. Officers are assisting with the march to make sure the group arrives safely at its destination, police said around 12:30 p.m.

The marches led by young people are taking place all over the Bay Area and the country today to call for stricter gun control laws.
