Five teenagers and one adult were arrested in Marin County on Tuesday for a stabbing attack that left a 16-year-old boy critically injured, officials said. A 17-year-old was also allegedly assaulted and had minor injuries in the October incident that occurred in the parking lot at Lynwood Elementary School in Novato, a suburb of San Francisco.
The Novato Police Department said in a statement that the investigation identified six Novato residents who were involved in the attack — a 19-year-old, three 13-year-olds, and two 15-year-olds. The teens could all face attempted murder charges, and are being held at the Marin County Juvenile Hall, police said. The adult was arrested for suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime and aiding a felonious act, and was booked into the Marin County Jail, the statement said.
“Subsequent to these arrests, Novato Police investigators obtained and served multiple search warrants at residences within Novato to collect additional evidence in this investigation,” police said.
The stabbing happened on Oct. 24 at 6:50 p.m. The police department said it received a report of a rowdy group of teenagers. When police arrived, witnesses said a group of teens took off in a car and left behind the injured 16-year-old, the preliminary report from police said. The 16-year-old had been stabbed multiple times; police also found a 17-year-old with minor injuries.
The 17-year-old was released to his parents on the day of the incident, but the 16-year-old remains in critical condition and faces “a lengthy recovery,” police said Tuesday.
